Who writes songs?

I guess I'll start a new thread in this forum. I have written about 2 dozen or so Christian Message songs. I've crossed many different genres: from Jazz and blues to Folk and Country.

I don't normally sit down and say, "OK, I am gonna write a song".. Normally - what happens is I am playing my guitar and either a certain progression, melody line or thought comes to me. In a matter of a few minutes - I have the theme of the song. Most songs are finished within an hour - some faster (as fast as I can write) others must be birthed. BUT all of them have a basis in scripture. As much as the melody, hook, and overall sound of the song is important to me - the message in the song must be scripturally sound.

Other than for my own enjoyment or for our band - I've never had any of my music published - though we've recorded it with our band - and it does get played and others hear it when we play. So - from that perspective - I feel blessed..

How about the rest of you .. any other song writers?

I have been working on a couple of songs that praise the lord. I have the melody and stuff, just working on the message.

It will be the first song I ever written being religious or secular. I am good with the music part, but I am slowly adding the lyrics. When I am sitting down sometimes a message or line will come to me and I will run to the computer and jot it down before I forget it.

Also I just hum the way I will sing it. Later on when I have the words I will replace the hum with the lyrics.

Hi! It's nice to see someone who alos has a passion for writing songs. I've been writing lyrics for about 2 years now and i absolutely LOVE it!

I'm ot very good at coming up with tunes for them thoguh. Usually, i have about 2 friends that do that for me.

Say i'd love to read some of your songs sometime!

I write much like Deldred. Usually playing a little riff and then suddenly it brings acertain thought to my mind and I just go from there. I have a question for you guys. Do you think it is okay to write songs about struggles and depression and certain feelings toward God, even if some parts of these things are not from God. Or do you think that it is misleading.

i've wrote songs in the past (about a million of em) mostly punk rock.
lately i have come to a greater realiasation of who jesus is and what i should be doing to paise him and i have now writtin 2 songs that are quite infectious....all the glory to the Lord in heven
